Inaccurate reporting. Written by Student #15. Unedited by blog admin.  Second blog post.

Quote “In the December 19, 2007 coverage of Saksi (GMA 7) of the UP Lantern Parade, reporter Rhea Santos said that the hosts of the said celebration was about to announce the winners of the lantern competition but was preempted when student activists tried to go up on stage. “Iaanunsyo na sana ang mga panalo, pero ang mga militanteng estudyante, umeksena,” she reported. Being there in the said “incident” I know for a fact that before it happened, the emcee had already closed the program, without any announcement of the winners.

Quote “The “incident” actually occurred because members of the Special Services Brigade hit the students with their wooden sticks, and tried to arrest a UP CMC Student Council member. This was not mentioned in the report. It was only when UP administration officials had left when (sic)  the students tried to go up on stage to accompany Student Regent Terry Ridon, who was about to announce the passing of the Pangilinan Bill (UP Charter) that day. Santos even failed to show the context why such incident happened: that these students protested against the passing of the Pangilinan Bill. 2008/01/26 at 7:07 PM.  2008/01/26” closed-quote.

Flandrin, Hippolyte. French painter (b. 1809, Lyon, d. 1864, Paris). Young Man by the Sea. 1837. Oil on canvas, 98 x 124 cm. Musée du Louvre, Paris. Downloaded with express permission from the Web Gallery of Art at http://www.wga.hu from site admin Emil Kren, Ph.D.. Many thanks.

Quote “The article failed to cite another source aside from Cabinet Secretary Ricardo Saludo who kept on stating comments (sic) praising the Palace’s actions such as “Our economic surge remians secure” (sic) “sustain our programs for the poor” “our economy is booming” among others. In no way does the article present a (sic) background information or a critique by an economic analyst to counter-argue or support Malacanang’s decision to not reduce “big taxes”.

Quote “An article in the Philippine Daily Inquirer titled “Economy Booming” Palace: No to big Tax Cuts  (sic) by Michael Ubac reported Malacanang’s statement on the issue of the decreasing U.S economy and the moves that the Palace will (sic)  do regarding it. (sic)

Quote  “The Philippine Daily Inquirer published a story Saturday (Jan. 19, 2008 ) in their metro section covering the ongoing protest of skyway  workers over their retretchment (sic), and their call for a congressional inquiry amid alleging that PNNC’s awarding to SOMCO (and transfer from PSC) was undervalued.

Quote “The article focused on statements  issued by PSC union president, Jose Apollo Ado, and failed to get the side of the other parties involved. This violates the very first provision of the Philippine (sic)  Journalist code of ethics that states that journalist should take ‘care not to suppress essential facts nor to distort the truth by omission or improper emphasis’. Also, the PPI expanded code of ethics warns that “the other side must run on the first take of the story” and it is the “imperative to get a second, third or more sources” to observe that the story is “fair, accurate and balanced”(Art 3 provisions 1,2).
