“15-yr-old girl critical after being hit by ‘stray bullet’ in Malabon
“A 15-year-old girl is fighting for her life at the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMC) in Manila after being hit in the head by a stray bullet in Malabon City on New Year’s Eve.
“Emilyn Calano was just watching fireworks display outside their home in Malabon when she was hit by the bullet, according to her mother.
“A Balitanghali report on GMA News TV quoted hospital officials as saying the bullet that hit the girl was considered “stray” based on its trajectory before injuring Emilyn, who the report said was in a “50-50” condition.
“Metro Manila police office director Chief Superintendent Oscar Albayalde, meanwhile, clarified that the incident was considered a regular “shooting incident” and not a “stray bullet incident.”
“Albayalde said an investigation was ongoing and statements from witnesses were already being taken for the filing of appropriate charges.
“ “We send our prayers for her recovery and vow to her family that we will investigate her case, justice will be served,” Albayalde said.
“Emilyn was rushed to the JRRMC, where she underwent an operation. Doctors, however, could not immediately remove the bullet that had penetrated her skull because doing so would be dangerous. xxx —Mark Merueñas/ALG/KG, GMA News”
