Single-sourced. Written by cool Student #10

Quote “Sometimes, news articles tend to be one-sided, only relying on a single source of information without even getting the other comment of the others involved in the story. One example: “QC court junks ABS-CBN’s P63 million damage suit vs. AGB Nielsen,” published on the Philippine Star last January 8, 2008 (Tuesday). In that story, the Quezon City RTC Branch 80 dismissed the multi million civil complaint filed by television giant ABS-CBN against the said global ratings firm because it had been “prematurely filed.”

Quote “However, reporter Reinir Padua wrote only the statements said by AGB’s lawyer. Throughout the whole story, it’s obvious that there’s no effort from the reporter to seek comment from the case’s other party, ABS-CBN. All you can read there are the lawyer’s explanation and happiness over the court’s decision favoring his client. The story is not balanced. The journalist’s code of ethics prohibits writing single-sourced stories. In this case, he violated the provision obliging journalists to recognize their duty to air the other side of the story.
