Prayers for our dear friend and colleague,
Prof. Florinda “Florie” Mateo, Ph D

The teacher who walks in the shadow of the temple,
among her followers,
gives not just of her wisdom
but rather of her faith and her lovingness.
she is indeed wise who does not bid you
enter the house of wisdom,
but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind.

The astronomer may speak to you
of his understanding of space,
but he cannot give you his understanding.
The musician may sing to you of the rhythm
which is in all space,
but she cannot give you the ear which arrests the rhythm
nor the voice that echoes it.
And he who is versed in the science of numbers
can tell of the regions of weight and measure,
but he cannot conduct you thither.
For the vision of one lends not its wings to another.
And even as each one of you
stands alone in God’s knowledge,
so must each one of you be alone in his knowledge of God
and in his understanding of the earth.

From Prof. Fernando Paragas, Ph. D:
“TRIBUTE TO FLORIE (DR. FLORINDA DE FIESTA-MATEO)
“Please join us, Florie’s CommRes family, in the necrological service to be held on Wednesday, 22nd April, at the UP Chapel (Parish of the Holy Sacrifice). There will be a Mass at 8 a.m., followed by a Memorial Program at 9 a.m., after which those who would like to pay their last respects can do so until 11 a.m.
Florie has touched the lives of so many people, especially us who have been a part of her life during her more than 30 years of dedicated service to the University of the Philippines.
The necrological service is our way of showing our love and gratitude to her.”
