Checking whether there are genome sequencing labs in Cebu: found out from news reports that these would be operational in January 2022 yet. This means the samples had to be airlifted from Cebu to the Diliman Philippine Genome Center where all genome sequencing activities in the country are centralized. Maybe , in the meantime that the labs in the Visayas and Mindanao regions are not yet operational, the Department of Health should institute a protocol on how inter-regional air and land transport of samples for genome sequencing should be given top priority by regional public health personnel and public transport facilities including airports and airline. 3rd PH omicron case arrived in Cebu from Qatar on Nov 28, tested positive on Dec 5. Why did PH authorities determine it as an omicron case only on Dec 18? Didn’t DOH say genome sequencing results can now be released in 24 hrs?#JustAsking https://t.co/MZ6Ickcmde pic.twitter.com/vVXMGbMbWR
