slowing down

still on health posting. i’m not a methodical vegetarian for lack of a better term, a methodical vegetarian is (by that i mean)   someone who, when he/she goes to parties or reunions or any extended  gathering or meeting or who when he/she sleeps in others houses,   brings his/her own food (vegetarian) on top of the reglementary food or wine  for the host so that if only food with meat is served, he/she  has a back-up plan for nourishment. it’s like… going to war. you bring supplies.  but when it comes to attending parties or social gatherings, i’m impulsive. i don’t treat it like… a war, you know.  you go to gatherings to break bread with family and friends; oh, if only bread were served in these gatherings and reunions. So now. Fast, it’s the 19th hour, it’s only 3pm. don’t worry i’ve done this before. some people fast or detox on a mixture of maple syrup, lemon juice, and cayenne pepper. (that’s what Del did a couple of months ago. that’s what many celebrities do! or apple juices and other liquids. but since i eat cakes and creamy sweets the rest of the time, and i’m not a celebrity, i don’t put maple syrup and fruit juices anymore during the fast, just wheatgrass and lots of water). but no physical or mental activity (others can.) writing this is not “mental activity” — it’s just that i’m awake, i have to do sumthin, not too strenuous anyway, i’ve already done lots of “meditating” when you consider sleeping today as meditating, i’m being facetious you know that don’t you. i should have measured my heart rate but  didn’t know i’m semi-documenting this this time —  it’s too late because i just took wheatgrass, that raises my heart rate to above 58 bpm, i want to find out how low or how far down i can slow it down. i’m not trying to put myself in a coma…just fast and slowing down.  xxx

(i’m supposed to have stopped writing here. but added some more.) xxx

(kulay dilaw na ba ako, translation,  is my skin turning sallow. i’m being melodramatic. it’s only been 19 hours) (writing stream-of-consciousness and unstructured is a form of semi-documenting, right? at least, you know i can still…spell). ayt. xxx

and added some more. POSTSCRIPT: i think detox (detoxification) is supposed to be for more than 24 hours, it’s supposed to be for days, so i’m not really on detox. just fast and slowing down. MAYBE I SHOULD BE A METHODICAL VEGETARIAN. (by the way, i should put vegetarian in quotes, i still eat fish and sea food, so i’m not really vegan. Technically, i’m… pescoterian….i’m already getting hungry, i should stop writing and editing this…seafood marinara…seafood marinara. it’s tomato-based. with olive oils….it’s my 20th hour, it’s 4pm now.)

“Maple syrup for Justice & Peace,” KQ calls it

“Maple syrup for Justice & Peace,” KQ calls it

This is the fourth day of Del’s “Fast for Justice and Peace”, or

“The Maple Syrup Siege”

(see third previous blog post below, it’s her detoxification diet of 12 tablespoons of maple syrup, fresh lemon juice, and cayenne pepper, and nothing else, for the whole day, for ten days ), and this is the monitor of her campaign, and for which she gave permission to this blog to post her texts or SMS as updates (i always ask permission from any personal mail-sender or “text-sender” before posting their messages)

First Day: (as you know, Del owns and runs the most aromatic, healthiest, vegetarian restaurant with the tastiest fares this side of town; and she continues to work during her hunger strike) From Del: “Hi! While the staff was frying tofu balls, i was seriously considering whether to continue or not. i spent 2 K already for the ingredients, so, no choice but to proceed…”

Hirap (Difficult) mag-stay (to stay) in Likha (the name of the resto), nakaka-torture ang smell ng food (my translation: It’s difficult. Getting a whiff of the aroma of the food while on hunger strike is a form of cruel and unusual punishment, a violation of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.)

3rd Day of “Struggle by Maple Syrup”: From Del: “I’m okay. Tutulan ang maple syrup (Oppose maple syrup) na very expensive (that’s very expensive). Was able to jog yesterday, and did a standing ovation today because there were lots of orders for deliveries. Thanks for checking on me.”

As a form of moral support for her self-imposed food embargo, we (KQ and i) told her not to worry about the maple syrup because we are ready with our  hotcakes (pancakes) and would bring these should she decide to back out.

4th day of “The Battle of Maple Syrup”: Hi! On my 4th day today. i biked yesterday to U.P. , then took a pit stop, then to National Kidney Inst. then to Human Nature in U.P. Village and back to Likha. Okey naman (It’s okay). Will attend the yoga class later, hope will still have the energy. Just finished reading your blog, cute naman, napa– smile ako he-he”

then, her reply to my sms: “i drooled over your dessert photos, haaay (sigh), i shouldn’t look at those in the meantime, i miss eating.”

Take it easy, Del!
