Inaccurate reporting. Written by Student #15. Unedited by blog admin.  Second blog post.

Quote “In the December 19, 2007 coverage of Saksi (GMA 7) of the UP Lantern Parade, reporter Rhea Santos said that the hosts of the said celebration was about to announce the winners of the lantern competition but was preempted when student activists tried to go up on stage. “Iaanunsyo na sana ang mga panalo, pero ang mga militanteng estudyante, umeksena,” she reported. Being there in the said “incident” I know for a fact that before it happened, the emcee had already closed the program, without any announcement of the winners.

Quote “The “incident” actually occurred because members of the Special Services Brigade hit the students with their wooden sticks, and tried to arrest a UP CMC Student Council member. This was not mentioned in the report. It was only when UP administration officials had left when (sic)  the students tried to go up on stage to accompany Student Regent Terry Ridon, who was about to announce the passing of the Pangilinan Bill (UP Charter) that day. Santos even failed to show the context why such incident happened: that these students protested against the passing of the Pangilinan Bill. 2008/01/26 at 7:07 PM.  2008/01/26” closed-quote.
