Trucks on roads in the Philippines are an unlisted phobia ; truck drivers are either murderers or potential murderers; they don’t see you, or if they see you they act like they’re driving tanks over an anthill. If you profile these truck drivers you’d probably find out that they’ve ingested too many uppers and stimulants they feel like gods on the road when they’re really nothing more than walking garbage-brained rotting zombies . But they’re still out there on NLEX, on EDSA, on side streets, racing with their cargo of loose sand, gravel, cement, LPG tanks, lumber and steel bars, dripping garbage, intending to kill anything that stands on their path.

A friend texted this morning the horrible news of the road accident: Mrs. Dulce Saguisag and former Senator Saguisag and their driver Philip Calvario enjoying each others’ company and savoring every minute you could snatch together from the long hours of work. This accident is one of those totally irrational senseless tragedies for a life well lived loving and serving your country; I hope someday I can understand the randomness of it all.

We pray for Mrs. Dulce Saguisag and family and all their friends and loved ones, for healing and recovery.
