Quote “Last February 26, ABS-CBN’s half-hour news show Bandila ran an interview with Kris A q u i n o and James Yap by news anchor Korina S a n c h e z. It ran about 4 minutes more than its other segments. After that, the show ran a 15-second video montage of the couple prior to their public feud while a melodramatic song with the lyrics “Stay Together” were distinctly heard in the background, complete with wailing violins. Quote “Bandila, as a news program, gave IMPROPER EMPHASIS to an issue that, in the first place, has little or no public interest.
Quote “Running the dramatic montage and insinuating with the song that the couple must stay together is blatant SENSATIONALISM, not essential to the factual report, which is a violation of KBP’s TV Code on News Program standards. There is also a question of conflict of interest since their news subject, Kris A q u i n o is one of their contract stars. By running the montage, the show was editorializing. It was the station’s (or program’s, or news writer’s) own OPINION or COMMENT that the couple should stay together, but the segment was not properly identified as such.” Unquote.
