angpagtitipon.jpg “Ang Pagtitipon” (The Gathering) by Leonardo Cruz, photo of an Inquirer newsprint

Inquirer June 19, 2007, Rizal day or Rizal’s birthday, front page, fails to put credits at the foot of the photo of the painting (“Ang Pagtitipon” by Leonardo Cruz). The lead of the news story on it only says: “by a Filipino artist”. His name appears, finally, (sa wakas) in the third paragraph of the news story. Salamat ha. (newspapers like the Inquirer put photo credits of ordinary photos of everyday life at the foot of the photo, they credit the “author” of the photo, which is the photographer. But for masterpieces, like this painting of Leonardo Cruz, they have an entire article honoring his work, but they didn’t think they should put the same credits at the foot of the photo of the painting; it’s not even in the caption, they have like two paragraphs of a caption and never once mentioned the name of the painter, in photo credits or in the long caption. You have to….search for it! So, they appropriate it. It’s made to appear like an Inquirer original artwork. Sacrilege. So, i’ll use the same word that i’ve used before, for myself (whenever i make a mistake) and for others, to be fair to all: dumdums.
