Conflict of interest won over objective reporting in TV Patrol World’s reportage of the Gandingan Awards. The program reported that ABS-CBN bagged (“humakot”) awards in the said event. The news anchor proceeded to enumerate the awards won by the ABS-CBN–all fourteen in total. While it is understandable that the program would want to report on its station’s winnings, it is unfair to report on the awards ceremony by giving details only on their own merits. Other tv stations also won awards from the said event but they were never mentioned. The reportage also lacked the necessary background so that viewers will understand the nature of the award giving body. UP Community Broadcasters’ Society (UPCBS) is actually the student organization who spearheaded the event and the respondents who voted were students from UP Los Banos.
