It’s called “labóng” in Filipino (vegetarian Filipino cuisine 1, start of a series)– soft bamboo shoots; here, with a little coconut milk. Sweeet. [bamboo shoots belong to the grass family. (anyway, blog admin also drinks wheatgrass (photo, right); and chilled or iced tanglad (lemon grass) tea, infused with sugar cane juice from Rizal Dairy Farms at the organic  market, refreshing! all — of the grass family (sugar cane is grass); and also eats  bamboo shoots, kamote tops, saluyot (see photo, “slimy” leaves, says a friend i just say “slurpy” slippery leaves): all of the grass family. Filipinos have discovered grass as staple long before wheatgrass had been cultured, commercialized, “sacheted”… she’s  into: weeds…)
