Ethics. 1st Media Monitor, Social Media Monitor 1, deadline Wednesday 11:59pm Sept. 4

“You are somebody that I don’t know
But you’re takin’ shots at me

     like it’s Patrón
And I’m just like, “damn

           it’s 7 a.m.” “

(Patrón is a brand of tequila,  -blog admin)

     “Say it in the street,

    that’s a knock-out
But you say it in a Tweet,

    that’s a cop-out
And I’m just like, “Hey,

     are you okay?” ”

Communication and Media Ethics. 1st Media Monitor, Social Media Monitor 1, deadline Wednesday 11:59pm Sept. 4, 2019
The first media monitor, social media monitor one, part of our pioneering syllabus, can be posted here, either regular or bonus, with deadline in five days or on Wednesday Sept. 4 at 11:59pm. The content should be described or quoted but the url of the social media site should be concealed, ALL real names in the content and among users should be concealed, i.e. NOT pasted. These will instead be submitted during class on a piece of paper to be manually routed.

Only one entry (either regular or bonus, but not both) will be given points for every week. In order to be fair to class members who work hard, any post submitted after 11:59pm Wednesday Sept 4, 2019 will be considered “forfeit”, or for zero points.
Since re-posting, “sharing” “screenshot”-embedding, tweet-embedding, etc., are rampant in the internet, class members may review and evaluate all kinds of posts whether or not these have been subject of news reports, and whether these are on FB, Twitter, IG, YouTube, WordPress, Tumblr, etc.

For the regular entry: A social media post (for the period 2016-2019) that violates the following standard: Language, images, expression that foment prejudices or organized hate against certain groups and minorities by reason of gender, race, creed, beliefs, religion, physical appearance, etc. (are not allowed).

DO NOT POST THE URL / LINK. DO NOT POST REAL NAMES. Indicate the date, the nationality/country, and the number of friends or followers but conceal the url, conceal all real names in the content and the url and and state “url redacted”; “name redacted” for each concealed real name. For public figures and public officials, redact the full name and simply indicate the title, public office (senator ____ etc), profession (actor ___). For private individuals, completely redact the entire name as “___ name redacted”

For the bonus entry: A social media post (for the period 2016-2019) that violates the following standard: Language, images, messages that express death threats or threats of physical harm or incite physical harm against specific individuals or groups or language that incites or facilitates serious violence, … ( or those that may lead to) genuine risk of physical harm or direct threats to public safety (are not allowed). (But site administrators consider ) … the language and context in order to distinguish casual statements from content that constitutes a credible threat to public or personal safety. In determining whether a threat is credible, (and) … additional information like a person’s public visibility and vulnerability.”

The class member’s entry can either be an embedded, or a pasted link leading to the student’s own site.
Instructions have been given in class. (As stated before: Students may use pseudonyms or pen names, and conceal their faces, and may also use their own platforms and simply paste the links in the comments section. (If pseudonymous, pls provide the department assistant with your pen name).
The class member may use this site or his/her own site, i.e., the entry may either by typed as text in the comments section or may be produced in the student’s own site: If the latter, please follow the same instructions in concealing real names and submit how your site can be viewed.
Pls type in the first line whether the post is a regular media monitor (1st Regular Media Monitor, social media monitor one) or a bonus entry. If being submitted as a bonus, please state “Bonus” in the heading, making sure the topic is correct otherwise, the score is zero points.
