i thought they meant the same thing– bring “A” closer to “B” has the same result as bring “B closer to “A”; but i guess you meant the means (motion); but if you move the elevation of the shoulders, bring them down to ground zero, the knees move closer… i’m messin’ with you –thanks for this!

technically not the same. If you keep the hips abducted at the same angle and keep it fixed, moving the right shoulder closer to the right knee will take the left shoulder away from the left knee.
You can bring the shoulders down either by protraction or spinal extension. Protraction will create compression in the scapular area which can restrict breathing, thus the correct movement is to extend the spine. In doing so, we can flatten the front of the body into the floor bringing the shoulders down. Spinal extension will not bring the knees closer to the shoulders because a different st of muscles (i.e., hip adductors) have to do this work.
