Cotton’s 30-Day Treatment for fungal infection & wound : Many thanks UP Vet Med, vet Aman Manalo & colleagues
From his skin sample scraped from the wound at his back and from his fur hair sample from the same area, the UP Vet Med diagnosed Cotton to have fungal infection with the affected area scratched yesterday evening or this morning resulting in a wound.
His prescribed medicines and treatment is as follows (see embedded jpeg of the vet’s Rx) :
1.Oral medicine : Co-amoxiclav antibacterial Penicillins : Give Cotton this (mix in his food) every 12 hours for 7 days (he took one dose today at 6pm). This is supposed to be taken in water suspension (dissolved in water). The medicine is for humans & that procedure (make patient drink in water suspension) is for humans. i figured Cotton will not do that, there will be a lot of slippage from his mouth etc, resulting in ingesting less than the dosage. So… i did the math: If in water suspension, the bottle says it is 60ml. His dosage is 3.5ml in water suspension. i did not put it in water suspension because parts will slip from his mouth, he’s a dog. 60ml water suspension divided by dose of 3.5ml is 17.1 parts. So, i put the powder on a wide plate and divided the powder into 17 parts, put each part in one small cellophane bag each to make the 17 doses, to be mixed with his food.
2. Conzace vitamins, one capsule every 24 hours for 14 days (basically, once a day. He took one at 6pm today)
3.Quadriderm anti-fungal ointment: Apply onto wound every 12 hours for 14 days
4.Perla soap for pre-wash and Mycocide shampoo for wash: Bathe Cotton every 3 days for 30 days, leave Mycocide on him for 10 minutes then rinse. (Pre-wash him with Perla soap. Then shampoo him with Mycocide, leave lather on for 10 minutes before rinsing. Repeat every 3 days for 30 days.
