“Maple syrup for Justice & Peace,” KQ calls it

This is the fourth day of Del’s “Fast for Justice and Peace”, or

“The Maple Syrup Siege”

(see third previous blog post below, it’s her detoxification diet of 12 tablespoons of maple syrup, fresh lemon juice, and cayenne pepper, and nothing else, for the whole day, for ten days ), and this is the monitor of her campaign, and for which she gave permission to this blog to post her texts or SMS as updates (i always ask permission from any personal mail-sender or “text-sender” before posting their messages)

First Day: (as you know, Del owns and runs the most aromatic, healthiest, vegetarian restaurant with the tastiest fares this side of town; and she continues to work during her hunger strike) From Del: “Hi! While the staff was frying tofu balls, i was seriously considering whether to continue or not. i spent 2 K already for the ingredients, so, no choice but to proceed…”

Hirap (Difficult) mag-stay (to stay) in Likha (the name of the resto), nakaka-torture ang smell ng food (my translation: It’s difficult. Getting a whiff of the aroma of the food while on hunger strike is a form of cruel and unusual punishment, a violation of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.)

3rd Day of “Struggle by Maple Syrup”: From Del: “I’m okay. Tutulan ang maple syrup (Oppose maple syrup) na very expensive (that’s very expensive). Was able to jog yesterday, and did a standing ovation today because there were lots of orders for deliveries. Thanks for checking on me.”

As a form of moral support for her self-imposed food embargo, we (KQ and i) told her not to worry about the maple syrup because we are ready with our  hotcakes (pancakes) and would bring these should she decide to back out.

4th day of “The Battle of Maple Syrup”: Hi! On my 4th day today. i biked yesterday to U.P. , then took a pit stop, then to National Kidney Inst. then to Human Nature in U.P. Village and back to Likha. Okey naman (It’s okay). Will attend the yoga class later, hope will still have the energy. Just finished reading your blog, cute naman, napa– smile ako he-he”

then, her reply to my sms: “i drooled over your dessert photos, haaay (sigh), i shouldn’t look at those in the meantime, i miss eating.”

Take it easy, Del!

propaganda value & the lucky color today:red

Del will go on detox

(a detoxification diet to cleanse your body of unwanted chemical elements) starting today and for ten days: she will eat nothing but the following:

12 tablespoons of maple syrup

lemon juice

cayenne pepper.

That’s for the whole day. For ten days. But she would still be working, attending to her restaurant and chores and running errands. I’m no expert but i told her that while she wasn’t eating any solids, she should just stay home and refrain from her usual activities. The detox looks like a Beyoncé diet (in an interview, the multi-awarded singer/ songwriter/ actress said that when she was preparing for a movie, she didn’t eat anything for two weeks and just stayed home; she had a difficult time because everybody around her were stuffing themselves with her favourite food…)

But Del will not stay home, she’ll go about her daily chores (Warning to viewers/ readers: Del runs marathons and has a good heart, literally and figuratively: Do not go on drastic diets without consulting a physician), so i said while she wasn’t eating anything but maple syrup, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, i would monitor her daily, especially after the second day. Just to make sure.

Maybe the better advice would have been: Let’s do a Fr. Robert Reyes (the “Running Priest) and issue a media advisory:

“Del fasts for justice and peace”

or she could say:

“my countrymen (and women): this is just a metaphor, just like President Noynoy’s ‘No to wangwang’ (‘walang wangwang’), my detox or cleansing diet is a representation of our campaign to cleanse our government of graft and corruption.”

(Oh, we could go to town with the metaphors. Everyone’s enjoined, boys and girls, to monitor her electronically for ten days).

And…

don’t think i forgot: your regular fare from this blog:

the morning show astrologer came out and said: “the lucky color of the day is…

red!” (that’s the public service for today.)
