Commentary:
This article explores the issue regarding Noynoy’s ‘new’ love interest Kim Ledesma. I personally do not find the way the article is reported very appropriate. The first part of the article discusses a quick background of Ledesma. Throughout the article, it made this article sound like a ‘showbiz’ gossip article. It makes the president, (arguably) the most important person in the whole Philippines, sound/look like he’s in the showbiz. The way the article portrayed the president, or the way the article delivered this news, is not appropriate for someone with the magnitude of the president of the Philippines. For example: it states that Lucas, the source said “…next time you hear that the president spent the weekend with ‘Kim’, it may no longer refer to the usual weekend with BIR chief Kim Henares ad his shooting buddies…” This makes it sound like a ‘showbiz’ gossip news. A simple line along the lines of “Kim Ledesma should not be mistaken with Kim Henares in the future” is more than sufficient.
Also, interview with Noynoy’s sisters were transcribed in the article. Their statements were very vague and unclear (“Ay, ewan! Ayoko na sumagot!”), like interviews in showbiz articles. This can be made simpler by maybe even just stating in one or two lines like, “Interviews were conducted with Pinky Aquino and Ballsy Aquino and both do not accept or deny that Noynoy has a new love interest” would have been enough.
At the end of the article, it states all his past love interests, starting from 2010. Shalani Soledad, Liz Uy, Grace Lee and Bianca Manalo. Listing all his past ‘love interests’ does not make the president look good as it makes it seem like he’s a playboy, not to mention it’s five girls in three years. Lastly, the last line of the article in a separate paragraph says “he was last linked to beauty queen Bianca Manalo.” This is inappropriate as there is extra emphasis on Bianca Manalo, probably emphasizing she’s a beauty queen. That extra emphasis further makes the president look like a playboy.
