    The article, “DOJ wraps preliminary investigation on Kian delos Santos case,” is a clear example of an important news story consistently updated for the need of the general public to information. The content of the news had let the viewers know who the probable perpetrators of Kian’s killing are, even though there are a total of 16 respondents. The journalist boldly identified who, in which both parties acknowledge, are the three main culprits—PO3 Arnel Oares, PO1 Jeremias Pereda and PO1 Jerwin Cruz. Even though preliminary investigation has only just been finished and no one has been proven to be guilty yet, the journalist made a conscious decision of stating these three men. He only did his role as a watchdog, understanding any implications it may have to the policemen’s names, especially that the war on drugs is a very hot issue.

    Lastly, the journalist was able to be balanced. He heard both sides of the story—the police respondents (represented by their lawyer) and the Public Attorney’s Office. Because of this, even though the journalist appears to have his own biases (being against the police), he became objective. Letting PAO respond to what they believe as just an alibi of the police, gives the readers more meaning and life to the whole story. That, the readers have something to look forward to more, should the policemen be filed charges.
