The 10th media monitor
is for 10 points: On disaster-reporting
(time frame of news events:
from August 2019
to December 2019,
in the Philippines
or in other countries:
worldwide).
Based on international
standards in disaster-reporting discussed in class
and on pitfalls
that should be avoided,
the 10th media monitor
is a review of news events,
news feature, investigative reports, featurized segments,
human interest stories, opinion/editorials
on natural and
man-made disasters
(earthquakes, floods,
typhoons, landslides,
fires, droughts, hurricanes, cyclones, etc), including
reports of typhoon
forecasts, etc.,
explanatory reports
of earthquakes, etc. ,
or of reports on
disasters being caused
by climate change.
The deadline is on
Thursday, December 12, 2019
at 11:59pm.
Or:
BONUS for 15 pts:
On film: A review of
the theme, language,
violence, etc. of any film
that the class member
has personally watched
either in any
commercial theatre,
or the U.P. Film Center,
or on TV, or digitally,
or online (full movie)
starting with a synopsis
in the class member’s
own words and
stating the names of the
filmmaker (director)
and the producer/distributor,
time frame the movie was shown, and concluding
with an evaluation
on whether the rating is appropriate
(time frame : in order not to prejudice any student
who does not watch
any movies or any TV,
the time frame is expanded:
from January, 2019
to December, 2019).
Same deadline. Class members may post a regular media monitor or the bonus, but not both.
