UP student R.Juan reviews ABS-CBN sports news

abs-cbnnews.com/sports/marquez-ready-begin-new-chapter-career
“ “Marquez ready to begin new chapter in career”. When I first read the title, I thought I was in for a treat – this should be easy to critic on how biased the article is because Marquez is the man that defeated (by knock out) our ‘national pride’, ‘national hero’, ‘national gem’ or whatever you want to call it. I was expecting an article where the journalist will constantly link back on how Pacquiao defeated Marquez before, how Pacquiao was unfortunate to lose; basically an article that is biased against Marquez.
“To my surprise, this article is very well written – no bias, focuses on the news it’s reporting on – Marquez moving on in his boxing career, and his fight with Timothy Bradley. The article was mostly quotes – on what Marquez said about his fight with Pacquiao and also about his next fight against Timothy Bradley. The main point of this article is Marquez vs. Bradley, and the reporter did well not to dwell long on Pacquiao vs.Marquez. There was a brief mention of the history of the Marquez-Pacquiao fight but there were no unnecessary details of the fights. The words used were precise in describing the situation and does not misguide or mislead the readers to ‘support’ Marquez or Bradley or even Pacquiao.”

Pacquiao clobbers Bradley to a pulp – shown here in a wheelchair after the fight, on the pretext (palusot)  that he sprained his ankles.

“For starters, not since Rocky II (this is an unofficial stat) have we seen the winner of a fight appear in a wheelchair. Yet, Yahoo’s Kevin Lole was good enough to tweet the pic, here is Bradley after his triumph. “
