THE SECOND MEDIA MONITOR OF THE NXT CLASS (latter class) CAN BE POSTED HERE, WITH DEADLINE on Wednesday, REGULAR OR BONUS (PLS REFER TO INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN IN CLASS).

THE 3RD BONUS IS ON ADVERTORIALS (online, print newspapers, television, radio, etc.) OR “NEWS FEATURES” “NEWS COMMENTARIES” etc. that are actually promotional of commercial products or “performances”, commercial entertainment, etc. , IN THE RUNUP TO VALENTINES DAY RACKETS, ESTE, ER, VALENTINES DAY CELEBRATIONS.

PLEASE CITE AND QUOTE THE PERTINENT SPJ PROVISIONS OR PPI PROVISIONS — FAILURE TO DO SO WOULD MEAN A DEDUCTION OF POINTS.

THE FIRST EXAMS WILL PUSH THRU AS SCHEDULED AND AS STATED IN THE SYLLABUS IN THE WEEK AFTER NEXT (AFTER THE DISCUSSION ON “REPORTING ON SURVEYS”).

  1. FIRST BONUS: Outdoor Media: Salaysayan ng Sansinukob sa UP Diliman (Art Installations for the UP Diliman Month)

        The University of the Philippines Diliman celebrates its special month with several art installations around the campus crafted by some of the country’s best artists. Some of the art installations include: “Agtayabon” by Leeroy New, “Ang Pagbabalik Lupa” by Anton del Castillo, “Mebuyan sa Idalmunon” by Ma. Rita Gudiño and “Langit-non” by Reg Yuson. As I read and understood the explanations for each work, I can say that they conform to the ASC Ad Code of Ethics as I applied them by analogy, particularly to Article I, Section 3 of the ASC Ad Code of Ethics, which states that “Advertisements must endeavor to promote the improvement of the quality of life of Filipinos, promote positive Filipino family values, customs and traditions,” and “Advertisements must respect religious beliefs, and be sensitive to the diverse religions, mores, culture, traditions, characteristics, historical background and identity of the various Filipino communities and uphold traditional Filipino family values.”  

For instance, Leeroy New’s “Agtayabon” represents a bird with the body of a human being who uses its wings to get between the two gods who always fight with each other. Anton del Castillo’s “Ang Pagbabalik Lupa” is based off the story called “The Departure of Gods” of the Kalinga. The work of art shows the separation between men and gods by depicting a woman descending a flight of stairs. Ma. Rita Gudiño’s “Mebuyan sa Idalmunon” is based off the Bagobo’s myth about Mebuyan whose body is full of breasts because it is believed that she is the one that nurtures the babies who have passed on. Known as the mother of the afterlife, Mebuyan is the one that gives children to all mothers in the world. Lastly, Reg Yuson’s “Langit-non” is based off the story “Ang Tahanan ng Manlilikha ng Sansinukob”. When viewed from below, one will be able to see how the god Tungkung Langit saw the world from the heavens. With these, I truly believe that these works of art do promote the various customs and traditions of the Filipinos. In addition, they also respect the various religious beliefs that the Filipinos have and are sensitive especially to the diverse cultures and traditions that many Filipino communities have.
