Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing Seasons

“like a sturdy tree that’s seen

  a thousand seasons

have to shed my leaves in winter

to grow them back in spring

   to welcome life again

   to welcome you…”

“…i’m starting with the

        man in the mirror…”

Myra.pic.alex

             “…A willow deeply scarred,

                 somebody’s broken heart

               And a washed-out  dream

They follow the pattern of the wind  y’see

‘Cause they got no place to be

that’s why I’m starting with me

“I’m starting with the man in the mirror

I’m asking him to change his ways

And no message could have been any clearer

If you want to make the world a better place

Take a look at yourself and then

       make a change…”

This week’s WordPress Photo Challenge is: Reflection, that is, literally, reflection — a reflected image on a mirror, water, or any shimmering  surface. Here’s the WordPress write-up of the theme and their sample photo (hope the blog did it justice with the photo above, shot by Myra Lambino in Tondol Beach.)

From WordPress: “This week’s photo challenge is guest hosted by Jared Bramblett. xxx

“Reflections. This challenge is about using reflections in the composition of a shot. Reflections are all around us, whether they’re in a window, a puddle, a mirror, or another surface. They can dramatically affect the feeling and mood of a shot by creating a surreal sense of duality. Think of a city reflecting in a river, a crowd of people reflecting in the glass pane of a building, or — as in the shot I’ve chosen above — a landscape altered by the placement of a simple glass mirror. jaredbramblett

“The image I’ve selected for this challenge was shot on a dock at a local park. I utilized a simple 12″x12″ mirror to enhance the depth created by the dock’s railings. The limiting size and placement of the mirror creates incomplete symmetry and forces my mind to try and complete and see more of the symmetry than is actually there.

“I challenge you to head out and create an image that uses reflections to force the viewer to question and interpret the reality of the shot.”

The Gardener 85

by  Rabindranath Tagore

 (translator not indicated)

Who are you, reader, reading my poems a hundred years hence?

I cannot send you one single flower from this wealth of the spring, one single streak of gold from yonder clouds.

Open your doors and look abroad.

From your blossoming garden gather fragrant memories of the vanished flowers of a hundred years before.

In the joy of your heart may you feel the living joy that sang one spring morning, sending its glad voice across a hundred years.
