The facebook link above shows Banggiitang Sundalo’s facebook post:
BREAKING NEWS:
Military confirms that apprehended protester named Mark Anthony Delgado is an active member of NPA’s Guerilla Front 73, Far Southern Mindanao Regional Committee. He joined the NPA in 2012 and was designated as Squad Leader in Guerilla Front 71 bearing a “codename” @LOMER. In the year 2013, he was transfered to Guerilla Front 72 and was designated as medic using the same codename. He was further transfered to Guerilla Front 73 in 2014.
although Banggiitang Sundalo is not a recognized news organization, they posted their information as a “news” and has become viral all over facebook for the past weeks since April 3, with 2,223 shares as of this writing. The ethical problem here is that they shared an unconfirmed information regarding the identity of Mark Anthony Delgado as an active member of NPA. They failed to explicitly reveal their source of information. Moreover, upon searching more about this topic, I came across Philippine Star’s news article which states that the true identity of Delgado as a member of the NPA has not been confirmed by the AFP, which directly contradicts Banggiitang Sundalo’s claim. This is a problem because it misleads the people who have read their post and may give rise to false interpretations and misconceptions on the real state of the Kidapawan crisis.
Last Saturday, an episode of ABS CBN’s “Ipaglaban Mo” was aired after the noontime show, “It’s Showtime.” The theme of the episode was very sensitive because it involves alleged rape, same sex relationship, and some offending words. Hence, it was rated SPG. This clearly violated the MTRCB provision because it should have been aired after 9pm so children are not most likely to watch it.
Nevertheless, the entire legal drama anthology where real cases are presented as a TV drama is an actual violation. I find it really confusing why the show continues to air at this timeslot even though most of its episodes are rated SPG. Thus, it neglects the purpose of scheduling programs that are appropriate for specific viewers.
Posted a few hours right after the VP presidential debate aired on CNN, Rappler posted results on a survey they made, asking netizens “Who do you think won the PiliPinas 2016 Vice Presidential Debate?” Results showed that Leni Robredo won by a margin, where Alan Cayetano came second, Bongbong third, Chiz, then Gringo Honasan, and lastly, Trillanes. The numbers of netizens that answered this survey were 582 in total. The way rappler reported this survey was completely correct, except that there were number margin of errors shown. Though Leni won by a large margin, it would still be great to see the margin of errors in the report. However, one may not take this report seriously, as this was not a survey conducted by Pulse Asia or SWS.
As seen in the latest Pulse Asia survey, conducted a few days after the VP Presidential Debate, It is shown that Bongbong Marcos leads with 28%, and second are Chiz and Leni, both statiscally tied with 22 and 21 percent. So as you can see, though Rappler may be conducting their own survey, it is still different to the results given by SWS and Pulse Asia.
(If I read the requirements correctly, any bonuses from the past could be posted, but below is a regular media monitor as substitute if the one above is not allowed.)
I was browsing in the latest news section of Inquirer.net when I saw this article that seemed a bit out of place among all the news regarding the Kidapawan massacre and other things happening in the Philippines. The article simply talks about Archbishop Villegas posting a prayer for rain on Facebook and how many likes and shares it has gotten. This, to me, is first of all very lazy journalism. The article just said a few things regarding the El Nino in the Philippines (one or two sentences) then for the rest of the article it just quoted the prayer. Two, it shows bias towards one form of religion–Catholicism. Other religions’ prayers for rain don’t make it to the latest news section of Inquirer, what makes the CBCP so special? It violates the SPJ code of ethics which states, “Journalists should avoid conflicts of interest, real or perceived. Disclose unavoidable conflicts.” People don’t need to see this kind of article in the latest news section.
The bonus on news coverage of the presidential debate (March 20) or the VP debate (Apr 10) should be on that, and not on any article about the candidate’s platform; the post pasted as a link here and written on the student’s platform and marked as bonus there is not a bonus post but a regular media monitor. Pls read the instructions. tnx.
